Background Subtraction Methods
Linear - Simple line drawn between two points,
intensity (i.e. Area) is portion of the peak above
this line
Shirley - Background intensity at a point is
proportional to the total peak area above the
background and to higher binding energy
(scattered electrons adding to the peak rise,
unscattered electrons giving a flat background)
Tougaard - Extends this idea further by
calculation of the actual background function
due to scattering
